I did NOT enjoy the movie. It depicts the typical childish black/white thinking that infect so many, especially the "woke." The blue skinned natives were the oppressed and victimized and the oppressors were solely evil. Unfortunately, there is a lot of gray in the world and almost nobody is purely oppressed or oppressor. The plot didn't even make any sense in terms of the motivations and goals of the characters. I don't want to say more and give away details.

Thank you both for the warning.

The upside is all these crappy movies are destroying the Hollywood Hellmouth.

I agree that real life is complicated and the movies do not represent reality. I would be interested in knowing how you would have framed the plot.

Probably with more dimensions to both sides of the conflict. The first film was doing this with the scientists/pro-natives providing a contrast to the commercial exploitation side of the "Sky People". One-dimensional bad guys only work in satire and comedy - the best antagonists have a complex character and I'm sure the Sky People could easily have been characterized with some contradictions, paradoxes, and contrasts. Certainly the movies don't accurately represent reality but they can tell stories with some realistic complexity in both protagonists and antagonists.

I'm not really interested in working out how to re-script the film, but suffice it to say Cameron has it in him to write better scripts, but there must be a reason he chose to go the direction he did with this one.

Talking about movies… anyone seen new Puss in Boots?

My darling Winston, let us speak not at all of history. It is quite possible Cameron is speaking of our current world governments, largely though not exclusively white and male, who are presently quite enthusiastic racists, pedophiles, psychopaths and genocidal maniacs who are on a binge of raping and pillaging the earth, her flora and fauna and 99.9% of her peoples, regardless of sex, ethnicity or nationality. Please, sir, before you fly off into defending an "attack" on Western democracy, please consider that this is a CURRENT EVENTS expose that is not a go to indictment of those historical purveyors of manifest destiny. Hello? Hello? Anyone home? Please, winston, I expect far far more of your intellect than this.

I figured the story would be cartoonish and the graphics fun. If I go I will probably consume a bunch of cannabis gummies and forget about the stupid message, and just feel being a Na'vi.

Consider skipping the movie and spending a few hours LARPing as one in nature, you'll save $12 and get some fresh air and exercise, absent any tempting junk food.

But what is Western culture really all about, especially when you take into account that the USA via its "culture" of death has hundreds of military bases all over the planet and some kind of military presence in most countries and spends more on "defense" than the rest of the world.

All of those bases are essentially powerful psycho-physical force fields. What therefore do they communicate - certainly not anything remotely to do with a life-positive culture.

So somehow the West is under attack!

How many bombs and drones has the US launched in recent times! Bombs are of course a very powerful method of "cultural" communication.

That is of course the on-the-ground-manifestation of the Wetiko sickness/psychosis which drives Western culture in particular.

Meanwhile here in Australia the most popular movie in recent times has been Top Gun Maverick which is of course a recruiting vehicle for the Pentagon's world-wide "culture" of death.

Western culture and nations were hijacked at least 150+ years ago, and arguably long before that. We live under a Judeo-Roman ethic, instead of where we started: a Graco-Christian ethic.

Again I point you to the Douglas Murray book, who doesn't deny that there has been much wrongdoing from the west but the western culture in general (and not just modern America, the west has a way deeper history than the US) has been reduced to a cartoon depiction of evil (just as have white male men). We can focus exclusively on the military industrial complex of the US as the whole representation of the west, or we can have a more balance and broader view that takes into account all of the constructive advancements that have come out of the western world.

I do not defend the USA and it's many incursions into foreign territory, nor its 'leadership' in woke ideology, and all those things that are so self-destructive and psychopathic - obviously. But what I don't like is the extreme biased and negative representation of the western culture. The US bombing a place is not western cultural communication - it is not as if all those from a western heritage are saying "Hey, little foreign place, here's a message from the west" as the US bomb the hell out of them. When the US was bombing the hell out of Baghdad I remember us watching night after night with horror as a very large war machine indiscriminately massacred thousands. We never felt that was a cultural message to Iraq from us with our deep English/German/Polish heritage.

This is all I'm saying - the Cameron film, if it was a conscious statement, would have you believe that the white colonialist is an insane warrior intent on total destruction for commercial gain, when that is not an honest representation of the 'west'.

Anyway, if we want to trash western culture, which many seem to want to do, I don't think we are going to have any better life under a communist dictator - because that's where it's all heading. We certainly are not going back to living in the jungle or some island paradise.

Some comments:

I wonder why Cameron uses the name/word Avatar as the title of this series?

The concept/ phenomenon of an Avatar is an integral aspect of Hindu religion. It provides a profound understanding of the nature and origins of human culture and what we are as human beings.

In the first Avatar movie the Avatar did not appear until the very last segment of the film, and indeed the last in-your-face frame. The Navi hero had seemingly died but was then revived via an infusion of some mysterious energy/spirit. Prior to that happening the Navi hero embodied at a deep somatic/psychic level the cultural inheritance of both the Navi and the white or Western man. So when he woke up to his new identity or bodily form he was able to understand at a deep somatic level every aspect of both cultures.

Who knows what the final outcome of this five-part series will be. Perhaps its purpose is a depiction of the necessary trials and tribulations which he has to under go to consciously Realize his latent potential and function.

Why too the subtitle The Way of Water? The Earth world is of course primarily a water world, and our bodies are 70-80 percent water. All of life on this planet is structured water. We humans have a psychic affinity for water and green living things too. Paradise is of course a green oasis. Green is also the colour of the heart chakra. Human beings find psychic sustenance living by lakes, rivers, the ocean and of course green environments altogether, especially forests.

Few people spend their holidays (holy-days) in industrial estates!

Water is also associated with the fluid/plastic nature of the psyche., and even with the Holy Spirit of the Bible. Jesus underwent a Water Baptism initiation via John the Baptist. Jesus is also referred to as the water-bearer in the Bible.

Water also responds to the human mind/ psyche and actions too. Such has been scientifically proven. Such science also proves that each and every water molecule is/has a crystalline structure.

What then if the effect of the aggressive Western psyche/mind on the subtle chemistry/energetics of our bodies and the world altogether.

That having been said check out the book titled Living Rainbow H2O by the always marvelous Mae-Wan Ho http://www.i-sis.org.uk/Living_Rainbow_H2O.php

Speaking of cartoon character films/movies wasn't that the essential nature of the hugely popular boys-own-adventure series The Lord of the Rings.
