Looking at America from the other side of the planet it doesn't seem like there is any near-term chance of a Christian 'coup'. If anything it looks like America is in the grip of a neo-pagan death cult that continues to kill the Christian foundations of the United States. "Christian Nationalism" (however the left define that) is probably the least of your problems. However, if America could reclaim its Christian foundations it would likely be better than some neo-Marxian/pagan/technocratic hell hole.
All the rules are most definitely what put me off practicing any type of religion while I do believe in God but in my own way. I had a visceral reaction to the word heathen as a Catholic Church called my mom that “bad” name for not attending church while I was attending Sunday school with the Catholic family that brought me along with their kids and as a little girl I really didn’t appreciate them calling my mummy a bad name. Furthermore I was no longer welcome if my mom wouldn’t attend too which successfully put me off religion and church at a pretty young age as I had really enjoyed going to Sunday school with their kids.
Had negative experiences with the Mormons too trying to convert my child over years solely because she was friends with one and their family couldn’t abide our family not practicing religion. The kicker tho was the Christian homeschooling parents who once again were trying to convert us into their fold. I thought they genuinely liked us, my kids and I but found out rather harshly after a couple of years when we declined joining their Boys and Girls club and my eldest daughter opted for joining the Girl Scouts instead… my kids and I were most unceremoniously instantly dropped. So the whole thing was fake, all they were looking to do was convert us to their religion right from the get go.
Much preferable to just believe in God with no form of religion attached for me anyways.
Yep, people are flawed, difficult, manipulative, etc, etc. Sad that you've had bad experiences with Christians - I've had my full quota as well. This whole thing that you are 'bad' if you attend church is such garbage. The homeschooling parents don't sound like they have much of a deep relationship with Jesus anyway - you're probably better off without them. Best to try an assess the message of Jesus apart from these negative encounters with people. If I assessed the Gospel based on the behaviour of people (or entire denominations), I'd want nothing to do with it. Nevertheless, there are people out there who do live the life of representing Jesus.
That was all in the past and at different stages of my life. God is everywhere so to believe he only exists in a manmade creation of a church is insanity indeed. And the part you wrote about being self righteous of and for oneself versus for God which would be selflessly is the complete opposite yet how many are going around now acting so self righteous and morally outraged by everything they don’t agree with?Jesus taught tolerance didn’t he? They obviously missed that lesson didn’t they lol.

But that's just my personal opinion.
Huh huh "christian think tanks" :)
Heavy words
I'll have a look at the link on the stopthecoup2025 website that takes you to the conservative report https://static1.squarespace.com/static/6547d46ce0be13435001c0ad/t/6579c5db116b966e946b2885/1702479330575/Project+2025+Mandate+for+Leadership+full+document.pdf at first glance it looks like a positive move for America. However, I don't believe there is now a political solution to the woes of the west - but rather a spiritual one.
