The history of the Khazars is a complex and fascinating one - probably a bit tedious for any but the die-hard history fans. By the 11th Century fall of the Khazar Khaganate there were only 2 small Khazar principalities - one of which had converted to Karaite Judaism but largely crushed by the Byzantine and Rus forces by 1016. The other principality were partially Jewish but destroyed by the Mongols in the early 1200's. How many of these groups actually moved eastward is debatable - no doubt some did, and carried their adopted Judaism with them.
