Some official stats for the great 2020 pandemic in Australia (Remember that? Sort of a replay of the movie Contagion; bodies in the streets, mass graves… remember?)
The top five leading causes of death for 2020 remained the same as in 2019 (Ischaemic heart disease, Dementia including Alzheimer's disease, Cerebrovascular diseases, Lung cancer and Chronic lower respiratory diseases). And as it says above, COVID-19 came in at 38th.
Interestingly “There were 55 people who died from influenza. This compares to 1,080 in 2019.” It seems the flu was almost eliminated. Could it be that some of the deaths from covid be deaths from the flu, just as it has been since they started taking records? And if so, just how much lower would the death count from covid had been in 2020 if unreliable PCR tests hadn’t mistaken covid for the flu?
Just to put those numbers in context for Australia in 2020 there were 161,300 deaths in a population of 25.7M or thereabouts. Also, when considering the graph above, keep in mind Australian life expectancy at birth was 81.2 years for males and 85.3 years for females in 2018-20.
And in 2020 Australia had the lowest age-standardised death rates (SDRs) seen in a decade - this has been a trend (see below). (i.e. less people died in 2020 than they had in the last 10 years! Yep it was a killer pandemic in Australia - no wonder the government had to become all totalitarian to safe us)
When adjusted for late registrations the SDR in 2020 was 6% lower than in 2019 (488.8 versus 519.1).
While SDRs have been generally decreasing over time, the 6% decrease between 2019 and 2020 is the largest single year change in the last 10 years.
Both males and females recorded the lowest SDR for the last decade.
It’s obvious we didn’t suffer the pandemic in Australia. It’s also obvious from what other governments have done that lockdowns and masks didn’t miraculously protect us - as the government would claim.
You have to ask where is the justification of the totalitarian actions of the current health officials trying to jab everything that breaths and severely punish those declining.
Well said, no one wants to answer these question. We now live in a society where even daring to ask such questions will get you labelled as anti-vax, anti-lockdown, not caring about people dying, etc.
Yes Murray it's classic psychology of those under totalitarian rule as you are well aware. I've just had a look at your profile and your quote in regards to Malaysia:
“They are creating a culture of fear. If you engage in any talk of public interest, the police may come to your house, you may be arrested, taken to the police station, remanded. Even members of Parliament are treated that way.”
—Yap Swee Seng, former executive director of Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram)
I can resonate with this culture of fear here in Australia - not of a virus - but of the government.

The reason we did well is because we locked borders. I don’t think masks or lockdowns did much good.
