It's almost like below the mammal and reptile mind, there sits something older, and even more cruelly mechanistic: An insect mind. That notion seems ridiculous given our understanding of evolutionary biology, but it presents as that nonetheless. Whether that idea has any basis in reality, I am increasingly convinced that overcoming that particular method to rule (and be ruled) is required for us to truly realize our humanity.
